Emoji madness!!!

Hey all!

I see a plethora of emojis all over social media. In my opinion, the purpose of these symbols is to add emotion andΒ personality to the blurbs we write on a daily basis just so our words are not misunderstood.

I am very careful with my written words in an effort to convey the intended meaning. I am also very careful with my use of these emotion-bearing symbols. There are a few I use generally,Β  and you’ve seen them here frequently (β˜ΊπŸŒ·πŸ˜‰ πŸ‘πŸ˜‚πŸ»πŸ˜” ), but there are special ones I save for those I’m more intimate with (πŸ˜πŸ‘„πŸ’‹β€). And of course,Β  there are the naughty /suggestive ones I will save for use with a significant otherΒ if I’m lucky to ever find one in this lifetime! (Wait, did you really think I’d post those here? πŸ˜‚)

The thing is,Β  because I know how and why I choose to use a particular emoji,Β  the meaning I attach to each symbol may mean something completely different to someone else. So even if emojis are meant to add personality and emotion,Β  they can also be just as misunderstood as our written words. In effect,Β  nothing really replaces the actual ‘spoken’Β  word. Subtle nuances are lost in a text message and bad emoji translation can also cause quite a ruckus!

So here are my questions to you lovely people:
–Β  Which emojis do you use with friends?
–Β  Which do you use with significant others?
– Which do you use with family?
–Β  What do emojis mean to you?
a. Fun
b. Significant affection
c. Just decoration for your words or
d. Nothing at all

Would love to hear your feedback on this and as always thanks for stopping by. Best wishes now and always.

I never send emojis to business contacts. Perhaps a smiley face but that’s it. Anything more is just a big no no!

  1. Honestly, I find it rude when somebody doesn’t use an emoji.. it’s like they’re way too serious. People often say funny things without emojis and it feels rude.. Mostly with unknown people.. or distant friends.. not close ones. :p I don’t know why it just does.

    1. I totally understand.
I accused a friend of mine several different times for being mean when he was just being playful. He has a very sarcastic sense of humor so unless he added emojis to his texts I misinterpreted what he was trying to say. He found it hilarious while I found it quite annoying. Needless to say we are no longer friends but for other reasons. ☺

Thanks so much for your comment. The feedback is very helpful. Hope you’re having a lovely day🌷

      1. hahah no but you can always use a ” πŸ™‚ ” or a ” :’p ” because honestly we created this weird standard of showing humor and love via emojis/emoticon ourselves.. and it has been embedded in our minds.. and then there are expectations..

  2. I loved reading this! I’ve often thought the same thing!
I am an emoji user. I think they just add the edge to a message, animating it more!
    I use these generally
To loved ones and special friends
And others if they are suitable!!!
But I do try to be careful… You’re right about different people and different connotations!!!

  3. I tend to use them a fair bit. I usually just want to convey happiness 😊 and respect πŸ’œ. The heart can also signify my love for a particular post. Sometimes I suspect that I go a little overboard on the happy face lol

    1. Hahaha, wonder that myself sometimes. I was just having a discussion with someone about this as it seems what we may think is innocent someone may think suggestive or be confused of the meaning. It’s all maddening when these methods of communication are often meant to bridge a gap of distance but can break them down quite as quickly is we’re not careful.

      How have you been?

      1. Oh my! Those can be brutal. I hope the you were able to use it for a bit of creativity.

There are days when my brain goes into overdrive and no matter how much I want to rest it won’t release me. Sometimes ideas for poetry just keep flowing or other times it will latch on to a troubling idea/thought an drag me down some very dark trails until I’m hopelessly exhausted or found a solution to what’s bothering me.

Either way it can be frustrating when I want to rest but can’t!

Hope you find some rest soon. Hugs 🌷

      2. Tomorrow’s poem is actually based on this week’s insomnia.😊 It was brutal. By Thursday, I could barely think straight. I was so grateful to wake up yesterday after a good night’s sleep. Sleeping problems run in my family. I’ve been surprised at times to see where my writing takes me. Writing can sometimes be compared to falling down the rabbit’s hole.😊
