Instant gratification…

This is a dangerous thing we do,
Not exercising self control,
Eager for the rush of excitement,
Not counting the cost of the ruin it can cause.

Instant gratification —
It’s our culture now!
Why settle for one
When we can have two or more?

In most cases
It can be considered
Pretty harmless,
But not so, if taken to extreme.

Two girlfriends/wives, two jobs,
Several bank accounts, two homes,
Two completely separate lives.
How exhausting!!!

But then again, why not?
Trouble is, this duality
Can one day become
A horrible nightmare!

When all those worlds
Come crashing down,
Is instant gratification
Really worth the cost?

  1. Hi A:

Your piece here is beautifully written and oh so true.

I learned about a suburb in Georgia where most of the parents worked long hours (sometimes two jobs) to purchase large homes, several cars and all of the gadgets/trinkets that their kids desired.
Sadly, while the parents were working to maintain this materialistic lifestyle, their teenage children were all home having sex parties.
Suffice it to say, The local health department noticed a HUGE uptick in sexually transmitted diseases among teens in that area and alerted the CDC. Of course, the media got wind and the rest is history.

Thanks for reminding us to put the brakes on the materialistic bandwagon.

    1. Hey Lady G,
Thanks for such an in depth comment.
I’m sure there are endless stories of the dangers a materialistic lifestyle. Priorities get so skewed that sight of what’s really important is lost along the way.

      Hope you’re having a great weekend. Hugs🌷

      1. Sorry to be so long winded! I just really dig where you’re coming from 🙂
Hope your weekend is good and your week is awesome 🙂

      2. Oh no. No worries at all. If it’s one thing you’ll learn about me is that I love depth.
So that was actually a compliment my dear. ☺

    1. Yes. The word I want to use is *worlds* which I’ve already corrected but the correction only shows up on our blog and not the feed. Thanks. ☺

  2. This is SO true. we need to be mindful of what is ‘right’ and act upon it before the wet-ass-hour, rather than at the last moment, or as a knee-jerk response. We’re not mindful of the future, we don’t think of it, we think of the NOW and we react accordingly. I think of say, women, and how they do not stand together, and support one another, they undermine one another, until the wet-ass-hour and then they march. It is too late. We need to act before it is too late. We need to consider a long term rather than the moment. We cannot live in the moment when it comes to politics and the future of the world, if we put things off we end up polluting our best intentions. xo xo xo BIG HUG
