My little trooper

They called for me
to come get her.
My little munchkin was sick.
I had to drop everything
to rush to her side.

She’s usually in good health
And as a good girl
I’ve always made her promise
to only get sick
between Friday 6:30pm
and Sunday 6:30pm
(when mommy’s off the clock).

Of course I’m kidding,
(only a little bit)
but as a single mom
when either one of us is sick,
that downtime costs me money.

She’s not sick often
because my primary focus
is to keep us both well —
prevention is better than cure!
Vitamins, healthy food,
adequate rest, balance.

A few of those things
were not in place recently.
Her vitamins needed
to be replenished,
and our balance
has been a bit off.
So my munchkin
went down for the count.

Fever, sore throat, headache —
those were her symptoms.
A few other kids
were sent home too.

I did my best
to nurse her back to health
but she’s tough, she resists.
She hates medicine
even if it tastes like grape!

So I let her ride it out.
I gave her lots of fluids
and let her rest.
The fever burned through her
but by daybreak it broke.

Her eyes no longer looked glassy.
Her spirits were up.
She was asking for food.
She was begging for a lollipop.

My munchkin was back
to getting in trouble.
She was back to not listening.
She was back to being
my bundle of freakin joy!

Yes, welcome to
the wonderful world
of parenthood in which
there’s never a dull moment.
Ever!!! πŸ˜€
