Fighting back the tears

image

A sad song plays on the radio.
She fights back the tears
while trying to smile
at her next customers.

The lovely couple
is oblivious to her pain.
They’re madly in love
oozing affection for each other.

She wants to throw up.
This is the last thing
she needs to see.
Is this a cruel joke?

How ironic that
she’s surrounded
by so many people
but yet feels so alone.

Back To One

image

Slowly find her way
Back to the place where she began.
Slowly finding her way
Back to a life without her best friend.

Slowly finding her way
Back to a world that’s incomplete.
Slowly finding her way
Back to one,  no more ‘we’.

Obsolescence

image

The music
Has lost its meaning.
The rhyme
Has lost its reason.

The smile
Is gone from her face.
The memory of him
Can’t be replaced.

What was all
Of the effort for?
Why build a foundation
They now ignore?

None of this
Makes a bit of sense.
How to move on
While stuck in past tense?

Can’t shake the feeling
Of abstract existence.
Not sure where she belongs
Inside obsolescence.

Indifference cuts deep

image

It hurts to know
That in her darkest hour
No one thought to ask
If she was ok.

It hurts to know
That in her darkest hour
Her words  were just
For their entertainment.

It hurts to know
That in her darkest hour
Their indifference proved
Her loneliness was real.

Skip ahead to Spring

image

Turn off the lights.
Close the blinds.
Crawl under the covers.

The holidays are way too hard.
Valentines is even worse.
She’d like to skip ahead to Spring.

She’s ready for fresh flowers.
Ready for a new beginning.
She can’t stand all this pain.
